As Goucher Roofing specialising in roofing and construction, we have converted many attics from unused space to living areas, extra bedrooms or offices.
A number of steps are taken to identify to viability of your attic conversion including measurement of the allocated space and what the space can be used for. Once agreed with the client our team can begin the process of converting your attic to a usable space. We often begin the process of using steel beams called RJ45’s that support the structure of the new space, the sub floor and making sure everything is up to code.
If the area is going to be used as an extra bedroom, fire safety regulations must be implemented. This includes a widened stair case, fire safety considerations regards lighting used in the sealing meaning you will receive a certificate to state the works are up to code.
Quite recently we worked on a attic conversion used in a mid century Georgian house. The attic was enclosed with a old brick work that had been decaying over time. Our team completely restored the stone wall and repaired any defects. The attic was then converted into a usable space complete with built in storage and new Velux windows.
This a very unique conversion as the attic area in most Georgian houses are left untouched. Our team meet the clients brief and provided a usable and quality space.
